Local Artist Gives A Maltese Knight Figurine A Millennial Makeover We Didn’t Know It Needed
A local artist has given the traditional Maltese knight the ultimate millennial makeover and it’s totally rad man.
Malta-based artist Jana Frost has pimped out a traditional Maltese knight figure into a modern-day, millennial version decked with the Supreme brand from head to toe.
This knight knows how to ride in style. Not only is he swagged out but his horse is too.
He’s even sporting a Supreme shield…
And just like every millennial, the knight doesn’t go anywhere without his phone in hand and at the ready to snap that perfect ‘gram shot.
“I bought one of those Maltese Knights from the nearest souvenir store and modified it,” Jana told Lovin Malta.
She began by sanding down all the manufactured paint and imperfections from the statue to its bare base. She also chopped off the sword and created a miniature clay phone to take its place. Once the sculpture was primed, Jana used acrylic paint to create what we see today.
The final touch: a glazed finish to give it that traditional ‘souvenir statue’ look.
Oh, and if this piece of art isn’t impressive enough, the Supreme logos were all painted on by hand too…
Jana’s interpretation of what a Maltese knight would look like nowadays is spot on. The slight embellishments on the miniature model are enough to turn a tacky tourist gift into a fine piece of art.
Unfortunately, the piece has already been sold, so you’ll just have to appreciate her work from her Instagram page instead…
…which actually has some pretty cool pop-art digital collages, some relating to Maltese culture and way of life.
