MaltaPost Unveils Hand-Painted Cat Stamp Series Featuring Local Felines

MaltaPost has unveiled Cats Series II, a new set of beautifully illustrated postage stamps celebrating Malta’s deep affection for cats — all set against iconic Maltese backdrops.
Each stamp in the collection was individually painted by local artist Andrew Micallef, known for his detailed and atmospheric works that capture the essence of life on the islands.
The €0.20 stamp features a tri-coloured cat lounging in the countryside with Gozo’s Ċittadella in the background. On the €0.45 stamp, a white tabby is depicted resting in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, with the parish church of Our Lady of Pompei rising above the townscape.
The €1.00 stamp shows an orange tabby posing on a wrought iron bench with the chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes perched over Mġarr Harbour in the distance.
Meanwhile, the €1.91 stamp presents a long-haired tuxedo cat, with the rooftops and parish church of Siġġiewi visible behind it.
These painted stamps combine Micallef’s artistic style with Malta’s cultural heritage, making them a collector’s delight for both philatelists and cat lovers alike.
Each stamp measures 44mm by 31mm and includes a Maltese Cross watermark. They will be available in sheets of 10, printed by Printex Ltd using the offset method.
A total of 500,000 of the €0.45 stamp will be released, along with 100,000 each of the €0.20 and €1.91 stamps, and 50,000 of the €1.00 denomination.
The full series will be available from all post offices across Malta and Gozo starting Friday 4th April 2025. Orders can also be placed online at maltaphilately.com, or through the Philatelic Bureau via phone on 2596 1740 or by emailing [email protected].
Whether you’re a collector, a cat enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates local art, this charming stamp series offers a perfect snapshot of Malta’s beauty — with a feline twist.
