Maltese Artist Anna Calleja Spotlighted On Artsy, The Leading Marketplace For Art
Local Maltese artist Anna Calleja was celebrated on an art website called Artsy, in their monthly series which focuses on five artists that stand out.
The series showcases artists which have made an impact in that month through exhibitions, auctions, art fairs or new works on Artsy.
Calleja’s works are described on the website as “soft, textural paintings.”
“Often employing tight, focused compositions, her images emanate warmth, suggesting scenes of cozy domesticity that unfurl beyond the objects in frame.”
During a recent group exhibition called ‘Breakthrough’ in New York, a trio of Calleja’s paintings was featured alongside works by other artists. The article describes her paintings as having a “psychological undercurrent to her subjects, often giving off hints of anxiety, anticipation, or listlessness.”
