Any Maltese person brought up interested in the work of theatre and musicals was also brought up believing that the chance of performing on Broadway or the West End was simply a pipe-dream that would never become a reality. And yet we still subscribe ourselves to years of training in the hopes that one day we might make it.

Well, for one local starlet, that dream is about to become a reality

Rachel Fabri Camilleri will be stepping onto the Apollo Hammersmith stage in May, along with a cohort of West End and Broadway legends to take part in The Best Of… Rock Musicals.

The show is being hosted by none other than the legendary Sir Tim Rice, the lyricist known for working on musicals like Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, as well as some iconic Disney movies including Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

Some stars performing on the night are Adam Pascal, who is well known for playing the role of Roger in the RENT movie, and Kerry Ellis who played Elphaba in Wicked on the West End.

The performance will include songs from everyone’s favourite rock musicals

Including Hair, Evita, We Will Rock You, and Dear Evan Hansen!

Funds from the performance will go towards the Charlie Waller Memorial trust that offers support and education to those affected by depression and mental illness. Particularly in musical theatre and the performing arts, depression and mental unhappiness is often masked by a smiling face. The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust offers vital information on preventing depression and is producing tailored guidance for performers.

This isn’t even Rachel’s first professional stint over in the UK

The local starlet has previously formed part in the classical-cross over group called All Angels. Here in Malta, she’s graced the ears of many theatregoers, taking on roles like Maria in The Sound of Music and more recently Grizabella in CATS. You go girl!
