While most of us spent our teenage summers by the beach or sipping cocktails across Paceville one young entrepreneur has spent his youth building the foundations for a strong business.
Henry Galea is just 18-years-old, but he’s also the CEO of a brand new makeup company called ‘Heri Cosmetics’ – the first makeup brand born on the island. Oh, and they’re all vegan and cruelty free.
“I’ve worked on this project since I was 15,” Henry tells Lovin Malta, “I’m just so excited for it to be out in the world now.”
Releasing an eyeshadow palette, three shimmery lip glosses and five matte liquid lips, Heri Cosmetics started with what they called the “base for every good makeup look”. The lip products hover around the red and pink shades, while the eye shadows get a little bit more daring with bright matte colours like Sunset and a bold, pale green shimmer in Mother Nature.
“I’m so excited by everyone’s reaction to the products, and I cannot wait for everyone to see what we have planned for the future.”
Restocking his store this weekend, Henry explains that there’s no feeling quite like selling out on a few of his favourite products, particularly since he worked on every single item from the lab to the mailbox.
“The company is based overseas in Taiwan, but I would be on Skype with them every single day, asking for tweaks in the formula. I was new to all this so I’d be googling ‘What is dimethicone?’ while trying to figure out how to make the best product for my customers”.
Henry’s love for makeup started from a young age, and while at school he focused on special effects makeup for stage and television, but now he’s hoping to use what he’s learnt to encourage people to be bolder with their looks.
“I want to see people in Malta be a lot more adventurous with their looks. I’m inspired by people like Jeffree Star who use bold colours and make a statement with just the way they look. Whoever thought to wear a bright pink lipgloss like Ladylike? I’m hoping the colour story of this collection really pushes the boat out there.”
The liquid lips and glosses retail for €15.00 while the eye shadow palette sells for €27 and can all be bought from his website with free local postage.
As for what the future holds, Henry hopes to see his products in stores like Sephora in the near future. “I’m also sending PR packages abroad,” he tells Lovin. “I considered sending some to local influencers but for now I’m enjoying being the CEO and model for my products here in Malta.”
The company was a labour of love for Henry, who works a regular office job during the day, before whizzing home to continue work on his next big project.
To show some love to the makeup loving audience out there, we’re giving three lucky winners one of Heri Cosmetics bundles which will include one lipgloss, two mattes and the palette (a total value of over €70). All you have to do is subscribe to Heri’s YouTube channel, like his Facebook page and leave a comment on our post with your favourite shade.
