One Maltese artist has merged science with art, and launched an exhibition that encapsulates this idea “in a medium which surpasses all language and ethnic barriers”.

Antonio Vella has been painting since age seven. But he is also a cancer research scientist at the University of Malta, currently engaged in a Ph.D. to better understand Leukemia.

However, his love for both worlds has served as the bridge between the two, and he is now set to launch a month-long exhibition to reveal his stunning creations.

Speaking with Lovin Malta, Antonio was able to give a background about his inspiration behind the endeavour.

“I’ve always sought to bring together art and science, two disciplines which many times are regarded as distant,” he said.

Indeed, Antonio may have done just that. His artistic works feature colourfully impressive concepts that range from sectioned organs to the artist’s very own take on scientific culture.

“I find myself moved by the unseen artistry underlying scientific research.”

“As a cancer researcher, I find beauty even in highly arithmetic processes that power our cells and hence allow life to exist.”

I can’t help but bring this concept out in my artwork, which is heavily influenced by my scientific studies and research, not to mention purveying the human feelings and emotions of a scientist which are hardly looked at in society.”

Throughout his artistic journey, Antonio was able to work with countless professionals that helped him pick up a variety of techniques.

Ever drawn to scientific research, the two separate words have merged to create a rare design not often seen today.

“For over a decade, it has been my pleasure and dedication to produce pieces which best describe my ideas, my research, and my feelings in a medium which surpasses all language and ethnic barriers.”

The exhibition will occur at Date Art Cafe in Bormla and be launched from 8th June, up until the 10th of July.
