Minister for the Arts, Owen Bonnici, has officially launched the new 2024/2025 season of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).

The programme includes over 60 concerts, featuring performances such as Beethoven’s Ninth, Verdi’s Requiem and the Foundation Day Concert with the MPO and the Youth Orchestra. The season also includes Chamber Concerts, the Do-Re-Mi series for children, collaborations with KorMalta, local and international soloists and participation in the Spoleto Festival.

Minister Bonnici stated that the upcoming season offers a varied programme and prestigious collaborations, showcasing the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra’s commitment to growth and strengthening the cultural identity of the country.

He also extended an invitation to all Maltese people to enjoy these unique and high-quality musical events.

“As a government, we are proud to continue supporting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, which has long contributed significantly to our country’s musical culture. The MPO’s commitment to artistic excellence stands out not only in Malta but also internationally,” concluded Minister Bonnici.

CEO Vanessa Mangion emphasised that September always marks the opening of a new season, and it is the duty of this major musical institution in Malta to participate in national events and offer concerts to the Maltese audience featuring classical music and more.

“Our orchestra is versatile, excelling in both top symphonic concerts and modern music activities. The program we have prepared for this season is as interesting as it is versatile. With this upcoming programme, we will demonstrate the high level and forward-looking international vision of the Orchestra. We have foreign soloists and conductors who will be performing and directing with the Orchestra. This, along with opportunities for musicians to go beyond our shores,” concluded Mangion.

The MPO also has a youth branch; the Malta Youth Orchestra, representing the future of Maltese musical talent and cultural heritage.

Composed of enthusiastic young musicians, the orchestra serves as a dynamic platform for artistic development and fosters a deep appreciation for classical and contemporary music among the youth. Through rigorous training, various opportunities and a passion for creativity and excellence, the Youth Orchestra continues to evolve, ensuring the preservation of cultural heritage for years to come.
