New Solo Exhibition In Mqabba Critiques Aspects Of Contemporary Society

A new solo exhibition by Rupert Cefai offers up a collection of art pieces brought together to offer a critique on various aspects of modern society.
The artist is taking a nostalgic dip into his days as an editorial cartoonist and mixing that up with his classy figurative art.
“The title ‘ante’ is suggestive of an imminent ‘gambled stake’, which can be perceived both in the various themes and scenarios that the artist chose to portray and also in his ‘return’ to the editorial cartoon approach,” the curator Melanie Erixon said.
The exhibition delves into themes like environmental degradation, the misuse of power, and the intersection of truths and beliefs.

Ever since 2008, Rupert Cefai has dedicated his time solely to artistic projects.
He has showcased his work through numerous solo and group exhibitions, both locally and internationally.
His portfolio spans a wide spectrum, encompassing everything from the human form to abstracts and landscapes.
Cefai’s art encapsulates his profound appreciation for the interplay between the tangible and the abstract, straddling that intriguing boundary in the realm of art.
He holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Governors for Fondazzjoni Kreattivita, a national public organization overseeing various cultural and artistic initiatives.
These include the Spazju Kreattiv cultural and artistic program located at St. James Cavalier, the Ziguzajg Children’s Festival, the VIVA Visual Arts Festival, and an Artists in Residence Program in both Malta and Gozo.
The ‘ante’ exhibition, which opened on Friday, is on till 9th October, at il-Kamra ta’ Fuq, in Mqabba.
