Olivier Nominated Choreographer To Hold Workshop For Arthaus’ Chicago Production In Malta
Fabian Aloise is a critically acclaimed choreographer who has been nominated for several prestigious awards and now, he’ll be entering the Maltese theatre scene with a workshop for Arthaus’ production of Chicago.
Aloise was chosen by Arthaus to lead these masterclasses as an omage to Bob Fosse, the original choreographer of the show.
“The aim of the masterclasses is to focus specifically on Bob Fosse’s legendary style in order to better incorporate it into the show. And Aloise’s work with one of Bob Fosse’s protégés, Ann Reinking, makes him the best for the job. ,” the president of Arthaus Samantha Corrieri Dela told Lovin Malta.
Aloise’s work has been globally recognised through multiple prestigious award nominations including the Olivier Awards which are internationally regarded as the highest honour in British theatre, equivalent to the BAFTA Awards for film and television.
For this award, he was nominated as the Best Theatre Choreographer of 2020. He was also nominated for the 2020 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Choreography and the Stage Debut Award for Best Creative West End Debut, all for his work on EVITA ( Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) directed by Jamie Lloyd which also won The Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.
He’s also been nominated for the 2018 OFFIE (Off West End Award) which he won for his work on Kander and Ebb’s THE RINK at Southwark Playhouse starring Caroline O’Connor and the 2017 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Choreography for his work on OUR HOUSE (UK Tour) starring George Sampson.
Aloise moved to Australia at an early age to train extensively in classical ballet and contemporary dance at The Victorian College of The Arts in Melbourne on a full scholarship.
His career as a dancer and musical theatre actor has transported his talents all across the world. He’s been from Australia, to Europe, to the United States, Asia, and London’s West End performing in iconic shows such as West Side Story, Cats, Chicago, Fosse, We Will Rock You, Fame, and Legally Blonde .
Now, he’s coming to Malta to help the company members of Arthaus channel the authentic Chicago spirit.
Arthaus’ production of Chicago will be debuting in July 2023. It will be directed by Lucienne Camilleri and choreographed by Amy Caruana Dingli and Francesco Nicodeme.
“Arthaus aims to provide an opportunity to experience something quite different to what is available on a local level,” Corrieri Dela explained.
Arthaus is a production company and voluntary organisation which aims to be a space for all types of artists to develop, experiment, and form close social connection. As an organisation, it has always tried to instil a sense of community in its members and be as inclusive as possible.

The masterclasses will be held on 27th and 28th August.
