Last Chance To See Postcard Drawings Capturing Malta’s Summer At Valletta’s Il-Lokal

Il-Lokal is currently hosting the exhibition hot-line by illustrator Noura Abdelhafidh at their pop-up exhibition space – and it’s soon coming to an end!

The recently inaugurated space forms part of the new creative hub in the heart of Valletta, giving artists a chance to showcase and sell their works.

hot-line consists of 16 postcard-format drawings done throughout the summer of 2021, and the exhibition’s coming to a close on 13th August.

Noura has a recognisable style of drawing that is also reflected in the dual meaning of her exhibition title. She adopts a one-line drawing technique in order to freely explore the telling capacity of illustrations through the very essence and versatility of the line.

She is interested in recounting stories, scenes and characters from memory by limiting her aesthetics to a one-line technique and a pastel palette.

hot-line presents imagery that is a combination of familiar mundane summer scenes; from childhood memories of Noura’s Tunisian summers to her island life in Malta.

Noura creates intriguing fictional characters inspired by real life that range from caricature descriptions such as ‘the weird man with the weird nose’, to more familiar characters like ‘Pamela’.

Her work carries autobiographical notions with a fresh and humoristic approach toward the mundane; at times also making the ordinary feel unfamiliar.

Noura was born in Tunisia and is a Malta-based architect, designer and illustrator. Noura has also participated in a series of exhibitions held in private residential venues across the island.

Il-Lokal is a unique venue bringing together the stories of Malta-based creatives through their diverse range of art and design products, which is located on Old Bakery Street in Valletta.
