Street Art Fights Back: Developer Invites Artists To Paint Massive Mural On Their St Julian’s Site

Just as a billboard covers up one of Malta’s most iconic works of graffiti, one developer is inviting artists to paint a massive mural on their third-party wall in a bid to show the country how buildings can become a centre for artistic expression.

Inspired by the endless street art found across Europe’s major cities, STJ Canvas are looking to create a space that encourages creativity.

‘Art is something that should be encouraged rather than frowned upon, it should be preserved,” STJ Canvas told Lovin Malta.

In an unprecedented move, the mural will be right in the middle of one of Malta’s main touristic centres, St Julian’s. Located on Forrest Street, the mural could become a key image in transforming Malta’s skyline.

“Recent events have shown total oblivion and disrespect to art and the artist’s message, we believe in the complete opposite and welcome it,” they continued.

It should be noted that the graffiti project is subject to approval from the Planning Authority, a panel, and other terms and conditions.  Applications must be submitted on www.stjcanvas.com by 31st October 2019.
