Maltese artist Saħħara’s Tethered is a debut photography exhibition which currently showing in Splendid Gallery in Valletta, shot during the worst of the 2020 bushfires in Australia.

The exhibition opened yesterday in the gallery located in Strait Street where Saħħara captured a series of impactful and emotive images.

This collection is raw in its expression; exploring narratives of pain, loneliness, the erosion of identity, and the shared experiences which tether women together in the face of systems that so often contaminates their bonds.

Saħħara also drew inspiration from her personal feelings of disconnection and turmoil, which brought about a newfound awareness of the significance of the relationships she held with the women in her life and the safety she found in their presence.

This revelation led the artist to explore the complexity of the roles and dynamics which exist between women and conveyed it through her art.

Tethered is more than just a photography exhibition as it provides an immersive experience through the use of scent, light and sound.

The exhibition will run until 18th February. The gallery is open from everyday from 4pm to 8pm.
