This Maltese Man Is Lowkey Killing The Wallpaper Game In Malta

When it comes to redesigning a room without breaking the bank, there are few things more viable than decking out your place in some new wallpaper.

Yes – good ol’ fashioned wallpaper. And one man is here to make wallpaper great again.

“Wallpaper was quite popular in Malta around 30 years ago but it was cut out completely for about 25 years. When it started picking up again locally (around 8 years ago) I realised most were just DIYing it,” says Dan Abela, founder of Walnut.

Dan and his company want to transform boring walls all over the islands into modern, contemporary, beautiful things to look at. And though Walnut has only been around for a year, local designers are already seeking his touch.

“I worked with the designer Mario Cassar on a set for Puttinu Cares. He asked me to come in and I did it voluntarily of course – I went in on the afternoon of a feast to lay down these cool brick and flower murals for them,” he says.

More and more people in Malta are turning to wallpaper to change their living areas into something eye-catching and interesting according to Dan.

“Wallpaper is the most cost effective way to completely transform a room,” says Dan. “Apart from the usual patterned feature walls, it can also be used to create a backdrop for favourite furniture, picture frames or bland staircases.”

If you are looking for a new look for your home or room, maybe wallpaper is what you need in your life.
