This Young Artist Just Sculpted The Hell Out Of Malta’s Sea Garbage And It’s Utterly Amazing

Garbage follows us everywhere, from alleyways and main roads to our very seas. Various clean-up volunteers have been doing their best to combat this and raise more awareness, and one young artist has taken some mythical inspiration for his latest work.

In order to commemorate last year’s Our Ocean Conference held in Malta, Żibel – in collaboration with Sharklab-Malta, Healthy Seas and Ghost Fishing – decided to gather all the ghost nets recently picked up at sea and upcycle them in the most badass way possible.

Żibel asked local young artist Jennings Falzon to design a statue using sea garbage, and the result is absolutely astounding.

Jennings, a 32-year-old local master craftsman, put his knowledge in Fine Arts to great use to design this statue, which he so aptly dubbed Poseidon. Now, the Ancient Greek god of the sea (plus a generous helping of nets and garbage) will stand proudly in St. Julian’s, overlooking Spinola Bay.

Falzon’s work is generally influenced by mythological stories and classical literature, and this is not the first time that he’s added his own interpretation to centuries-old legends through his awesome work.
