Thousands of people visited Valletta last night for the latest edition of Notte Bianca, one of Malta’s major annual public cultural and artistic events.

Around 250 local and international artists took part in over 50 projects involving all kinds of performances, from music and singing to dance and artistic installations. Heritage Malta museums also stayed open till late and were free of charge for the public.

Heritage Minister Owen Bonnici said that Notte Bianca is an opportunity for Maltese people and tourists alike to appreciate the beauty and rich history of Malta’s capital city.

“As soon as I came to Valletta, I realised this was going to be our largest ever Notte Bianca,” he said. “Thousands of people literally packed the streets of Valletta and answered to our call to plan their journey in advance to enjoy it as much as possible. We are determined to continue doing our utmost for arts and culture to reach the hearts and minds of the people of Malta.”

Festivals Malta also played a leading role in the event, and its chairman Aaron Zahra and CEO Frans Agius praised their team for raising Notte Bianca’s level.

“Notte Bianca is one of the largest events in Festivals Malta’s calendar and involves long hours of work and preparation,” Agius said. “However, when we see such positive results, we cannot help but feel proud and satisfied with our achievements.”

The Artistic Director of Notte Bianca, Antoine Farrugia, stressed that Maltese artists made up the chunk of performers in this year’s edition.

“I was pleased to see the production level go up on a notch this year, and this ultimately shows how talented our artists are.”

Parliamentary secretary for Local Governance Alison Zerafa Civelli and Valletta mayor Olaf McKay were also present for the event.

Work has already started for next year’s edition of Notte Bianca, which will take place on Saturday 4th October 2025.
