Tracing Time And Memory: An Exhibition On Childhood, Identity And Belonging

Maltese artist, Casey Caruana, is presenting her “Dreams of Past and Present” art and poetry exhibition until 25th July at the Citadel Cultural Centre in Gozo.

Caruana is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores memory, identity and quiet tension between past and present. Drawing from personal experience and introspection, her practice often weaves together poetry, printmaking, and mixed media to evoke a sense of longing, reflection, and emotional resonance.

“Dreams merge with reality the way that the present fades into the past,” said Casey in a statement.

Through a series of linoleum prints, oil paintings and poems, the exhibition explores the artist’s experience of longing for a childhood that had to be left behind after migration, the grief for the passing of time and the shifting of identity.

Each piece delves into how moments blur with time, childhood dissolves into nostalgia and issues of belonging as an individual grows.

Caruana created her exhibition to serve as an opportunity for viewers to reflect on their own relationships with memory, time, and the roots that make them who they are.
