An art exhibition by a Spanish artist Cristobal Gabarron is being brought over to Malta by the Spanish Embassy. The work entitled ‘Enlightened Universe’  will be unveiled in Pjazza San Gorg, Valletta, on the 21st October and will stay there until the 5th December.

The installation was commissioned by the UN to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is composed of a large silver sphere surrounded by 70 figures joined hand-in-hand symbolizing global solidarity and responsibility for our planet.

The installation was first unveiled in 2015, in Central Park in New York and has since been displayed in several other cities like Amsterdam, Geneva, Brussels, Valladolid and now Valletta.

Work on bringing the installation to Malta started in 2020 and the idea was to use it as a ‘curtain raiser’ for the United Nations Security Council experience in Malta and also to mark Malta’s and Spain’s historical and bilateral ties.

The event will host a number of people from the government and MTA and begin with an address by HE Jose Maria Muriel, Ambassador of Spain to Malta, followed by a presentation of the work by the artist Cris Gabarron. A small reception and photo session with the installation will close the event.
