Valletta Welcomes IMprint Seven: Contemporary Intaglio Prints On Show
Art lovers, this one’s for you! The Malta Society of Arts is currently hosting iMprint 7: Contemporary Intaglio, a vibrant group exhibition showcasing more than 50 original intaglio prints by 30 Maltese and international artists.
Among the highlights is a special focus on 20 works by renowned Maltese artist Caesar Attard, presenting his complete series Life and Passion.
Curated by art historian Christian Attard, this year’s exhibition is all about celebrating the technical mastery and experimental spirit of intaglio printmaking.
From aquatint and mezzotint to spit bite and dry-point, the diverse range of techniques on display shows just how dynamic this medium can be. Each print is hand-pulled, signed, and numbered, a true collector’s dream.
iMprint has grown into Malta’s only exhibition exclusively dedicated to original artistic prints since it first launched in 2013. Spearheaded by artists and educators Jesmond Vassallo, Lino Borg, and Justin Falzon, the series continues to champion printmaking while fostering both local and international artistic exchange.
This edition also marks the second collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Malta and the Swedish Printmakers Association, highlighting the global connections in contemporary printmaking.
Roderick Camilleri, Acting President of the Malta Society of Arts, says it best:
“The iMprint series continues to play a crucial role in preserving and revitalising Malta’s printmaking heritage, opening new pathways for engagement, collaboration, and artistic exchange. Contemporary Intaglio exemplifies the vitality and innovation that define this medium.”
If you’ve ever wanted to see intaglio up close, now’s your chance. iMprint 7 runs until 20 November 2025 at the Malta Society of Arts, 219 Republic Street, Valletta. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am–7pm and Saturday 9am–1pm. Best of all, entry is free.
