Young Artists Explore Hidden Truths In UP/ROOT Exhibition At Il-Kamra Ta’ Fuq

Four of Malta’s young artists, Stefan Spiteri, Andrew Inguanez, Shania Camenzuli and Daniel Mifsud will share their unique perspectives on displacement in the upcoming exhibition “UP/ROOT”.

The exhibition will be curated by Melanie Erixon and is hosted by il-Kamra ta’ Fuq, running from June 23rd to July 9th.

The concept of “UP/ROOT” derives from the act of uprooting – to pull up by the roots, or to displace from a place or traditional habitat.

This notion resonates strongly with the introspective methodology of the four artists – who use the process of creative uprooting to reveal aspects of life and experience that often remain hidden or overlooked.

Visitors to the exhibition are invited to embark on a thought-provoking journey.

Each artist presents a unique interpretation of the theme of “UP/ROOT,” meditating on aspects of the surrounding environment, personal identity, and psychological states.

Despite the distinct perspectives, common threads, such as the exploration of ‘inside/outside’, ‘under/over’, and ‘reality/fiction’, create interconnections between the individual works.

“This exhibition is about more than the visual appeal of art,” said curator Melanie Erixon.

“It’s about presenting a range of different realities that encourage viewers to think and question, to look beneath the surface of their experiences, and explore the shared truths that connect us all.”
