Local designer Zack Ritchie is back with another collaboration – this time teaming up with We Art Love to create a collection of artworks focusing on the strengths of dyslexia told through a dyslexic astronaut.

Better yet, the proceeds from the collaboration are going straight to support Made by Dyslexia, a charity and campaign supported by Microsoft and Richard Brandson.

As he launched the collaboration, Ritchie opened up on the learning difficulties he faced as he was growing up, as the local designer was then diagnosed with dyslexia.

“When I was younger, I faced learning difficulties and was diagnosed with dyslexia. Growing up, I wasn’t keen on reading and writing, but I always enjoyed thinking and creating,” Ritchie told Lovin Malta.

“To this day, I cherish imagining ideas, constructing things, and drawing. I want to empower other dyslexics by focusing on our strengths, rather than focusing on overcoming our difficulties,” he said.

“So I teamed up with We Art Love to create a small collection of prints and a colouring book with 31 tips to stay creative,” he explained.

“We’re inspired by Kate Griggs’ Made By Dyslexia and share a common goal: to shift the narrative around dyslexia from challenge to superpower. We admire how her mission aligns with our art collection’s aim to celebrate and empower dyslexic thinking.”

“The collection is based on an astronaut with dyslexia, ZEP finds endless possibilities in the cosmos, mirroring the expansive nature of a dyslexic mind. Equipped with a specialised spacesuit and toolkit, ZEP navigates through space challenges, exemplifying the unique problem-solving strengths often found in individuals with dyslexia.”

He also explained how the visor on the spacesuit serves as a reflection of diverse perspectives, celebrating the uniqueness in how everyone views the world.

The colouring book featuring 31 empowering tips to enhance your creativity. Each page highlights Zep, the astronaut with dyslexia, who imparts these creative tips.

These insights are drawn by his own personal journey and lessons, specifically designed to cultivate your creative spirit.

The collaboration was launched last Saturday, which marked World Dyslexia Day, aiming to raise awareness on the often-overlooked condition.
