Boat Parties, Contemporary Dance Shows And Open Mics: Your Weekend In Malta Is Officially Sorted

Last weekend’s crazy storm caused most of Malta to hibernate under their duvets with the fear of having to leave the house.

Fortunately, though, we are set for more than decent weather this weekend, and now that carnival has finally arrived, it’s time to start off the new month with by filling your social calendars with these events (beyond the Nadur / Għaxaq / Valletta carnivals, of course).

Friday 1st March 2019

1. An anatomical themed exhibition

Artist Julien Vinet will exhibit his latest collection of anatomical drawings in ink on paper at La Bottega Art Bistro. There’ll be aperitivo from 6-8pm.

2. The grand re-opening of a steakhouse with 50% off food

To celebrate their re-opening, BosSteaks are offering 50% off food between 1st March – 5th March. Expect tons of different steak cuts at epic prices.

3. A pub crawl

Malta Pub Crawl are hosting a pub crawl in Paceville. For €12, you get four free entry drinks and 30 mins unlimited shots at each venue.

4. A carnival special club night with a DJ flying straight from LA

Fridazed’s special carnival party will feature Silky who will be coming all the way from Los Angeles to make you dance to some banging electro tunes!

5. A dress-up gig by Malta’s favourite alt icons

Want to watch your personal favourites from the local alternative scene with a colourful difference?

Ian Schranz (bark bark disco), Robert Pisani (The Suburbanite), Yasmin Kuymizakis (YEWS) and Mark ‘Zizza’ (Brodu) will be dressing up as and covering their heroes; Bon Jovi, Liam Gallagher, Blondie and Jovanotti. We’re in for a whacky one!

Saturday 2nd March 2019

6. A carnival boat party going to Gozo and back

A party on a boat for carnival? Yes please.

You will be able to go to the carnival in Gozo on a 500-people boat party!

There’ll be a good selection of DJs and there’s an option to have a VIP ticket which gives you access to an open bar.

7. A yoga sesh on the beach

A 90-minute Beach FitYoga Vinyasa Flow session at the Exiles Beach Club in Sliema. You can hire a yoga mat for €1 and all levels are welcome.

8. An open mic night

Turn up to Casey’s Bar between 8 and 9pm for their popular open mic event. Get on stage or watch some of the best performers on the island (as well as the newcomers).

They encourage any arts including signing, acting, poetry and more. Just grab that mic!

Sunday 3rd March 2019

9. A contemporary dance performance by international dancers

The Transitions Dance Company are coming to Malta for one day as part of their world tour.

The audience will have the opportunity to see a new triple bill of short, innovative dance works from 15 international dancers.

10. A carnival run

250 people will participate in the very first edition of Carnival Run which starts at Għaxaq’s Main Square.

There will be three events, including a 5km race, a 2.5km fun run/walk and a 1km Kids Run. Carnival themed outfits are encouraged.

11. An open day of artisan markets and re-enactments

Due to its high success last weekend, the artisan’s collective is back again this weekend. Expect tons of different artisan stalls selling clothes, jewellery, candles and much more. There will also be re-enactments being held at historical Torri Mamo.
