After days of investigations, Police have arrested an Italian national who allegedly possessed approximately 54 kilograms of marijuana.

Police estimate that their haul has an approximate street value of €880,000.

The drugs were found after police surrounded and searched a St Paul’s Bay residence on Friday.

After the discovery was made, a 48-year-old Italian man was arrested – and he is now being kept at Floriana’s General Police Headquarters.

He is expected to be brought to court later today.

Until the legal weed market in Malta properly opens, the likelihood of dealers being disempowered remains very small – and the police are likely to have their work cut out for them.
