Non-Profit Organisations Can Register To Grow And Sell Cannabis In Malta As Of February 2023
Non-profit organisations will be able to register for a license to grow and sell cannabis to the public as of February 28th, 2023.
This was addressed during a press conference held earlier today, together with Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms Rebecca Buttigieg and Cannabis Authority head Leonid McKay, at the new ARUC offices.
“They will be responsible from seed to sale,” PL MP Rebecca Buttigieg said, stressing that harm reduction will be greatly prioritised.
On 27th January 2023, the convention titled ‘Setting The Standards’ will occur. The applications to register as an NPO will then open on 28th February.
In January, leading up to the convention, the ARUC will work to establish certain standards needed for the NPO, regarding labeling, packaging, quality of the product, and so on.
ARUC is encouraging interested NPOs to attend the convention, in order to learn more about the process and engage in dialogue.
A robust framework, harm reduction, non-commercialisation, and regular meetings with the cannabis authority will be ensured for safety.
ARUC also committed itself to meet regularly with NGOs that reflect cannabis users on the island to ensure that the law is reflecting their needs.
For this same reason, there will be a sector of research along with a license department, a department of enforcement, and a compliance department to ensure that NPOs are operating in compliance with the law.
The fact that NPOs will not be commercialised was majorly stressed during the announcement of this development.
