Watch: AFM Weed Theft Shows Malta Must Regulate Resin, Cannabis Authority Head

The recent theft of weed from an AFM container shows that Malta needs to regulate cannabis resin, the head of the cannabis authority said.
“It’s practically impossible to eliminate the black market because it’s dynamic and ever-changing, but we did deal it a heavy blow by allowing people to become members of cannabis associations,” Joey Reno Vella said on Popolin.
“However, we must be creative and amend our strategy to continue fighting it, including by regulating more forms of cannabis such as resin.”
“The theft mainly involved resin, which shows there is a demand for that product in the market. If the spirit of the law is to combat the black market, and if the black market is competing by offering cannabis resin that is often heavily contaminated, we must be there to offer a safe alternative for people who prefer resin.”
