Watch: Cannabis Activist Pushes For Legal Weed Delivery In Malta
It’s been a year since the first Maltese cannabis associations started operating, and activist group ReLeaf has some ideas about how to improve the system.
In an interview with Lovin Malta’s Tim Diacono, ReLeaf president Andrew Bonello said these associations should be allowed to deliver weed to their members.
“Delivery is already being done [with other products],” Bonello said.
“We can see products being delivered that are quite dangerous and far more dangerous than cannabis itself.”
“We know that a new law was passed to ban these substances but they’re still on the market so we want to make it a bit more comfortable for cannabis consumers to be able to make the right choices.”
ReLeaf is also proposing that association members be allowed to consume cannabis on site, a move that would see them resemble the famous Spanish social clubs.
“A safe space for consumers is imperative because right now they can only consume at home, which might not be ideal,” he said.
“We fell short of the ‘social’ aspect of clubs and what we have are dispensaries where we can go, acquire and leave with no on-site consumption.”
ReLeaf also wants associations to be allowed to sell edibles and to broaden the scope of their production to allow cheaper cannabis products on the market.
“Some people cannot afford the current prices,” he warned. “We need a wider range of pricing, with lower prices for some strains and higher ones for strains that take longer to grow.”
The full interview will be published soon.
