6 Maltese Celebrities That We Think Deserve A National Holiday Named After Them

Article Featured Image

In case you missed it, a city over in America officially declared the 21st of March Joseph Calleja Day last week. The city of Naples in Florida will now have an entire day to one of Malta’s proudest export, tenor Joseph Calleja.

Well in, Jojo. But this got us thinking: why don’t we have our own Joseph Calleja Day here in Malta? Technically, it’s not a national holiday over in Florida, but it could be in Malta if we wanted to make it one. We have so many national holidays, one more won’t hurt, right?

And hey, while we’re at it, let’s just chuck in a couple of other local celebs that deserve a national holiday named after them.

1. Tamara Webb

On Tamara Webb Day, we all practice the art of #Balance. A healthy lunch followed by a piece of chocolate cake. A trip to the gym followed by a visit to a cocktail bar. Be a proper #Queen.

2. Chiara Siracusa

Chiara Day could also be dubbed ?arbun Day, of course.

On this day, everyone on the island is required to purchase a brand new pair of shoes. But there’s also a deeper meaning to the holiday; Chiara Day is an excuse to practice some empathy by putting yourself in someone else’s ?arbun.

3. Eileen Montesin

All hail the queen of Maltese television.

On Eileen Day, nobody is allowed to leave the house until they have watched the required amount of seven (7) hours worth of TV shows featuring Eileen herself.

Bonus points if you can quote the episodes alongside Eileen.

4. Peppi Azzopardi

On Peppi Day, there is one thing to do; donate and interrogate.

Dedicate your day to celebrating charitable causes whilst also interrogating every single person you come across.

5. Clinton Paul

Blessed be, kitty girls.

Clinton Paul Day is all about expressing your true self. Throw caution to the wind and whip out your metallic Spanx and jelly shoes. The world is your fashion oyster. Be a rebellion.

6. Sarah Zerafa

Which I am officially dubbing as Take-Away Day.

There’s only one way to celebrate Sarah Day and I don’t need to spell it out for you, but I’ll do it anyway; stop being hungry and order some take-away.

Who else deserves a national holiday named after them?
