Alex Alden Dismisses X Factor Audience’s Advice And Eliminates Michelle

Alex Alden is facing a tough crowd tonight as her X Factor category (the Overs) face the final round of the Six Chair Challenge. Tonight will see Alden deciding who will head on to the next round, Judges’ Houses.

Chantal Catania just gave us an exciting performance of Joss Stone’s You Had Me from Chantal Catania. Alex was then faced with one tough decision.

Ray’s wig – also known as his signature pair of shades – flew off, as he asked Chantal to repeat a line from her original audition. A quickfire request, making the rest of the judges cast their minds back to her soulful entry to the competition.

In true Alden fashion, the singer-songwriter said Chantal deserved a chair. The only problem being that she already had a full roster of six contestants seated.

Alden dismissed the audience’s “opinion” and asked Chantal to take the third chair – where Michelle was seated.

Earlier in the episode, Michelle took to the stage to belt out a cover of Alicia Key’s No One.

As Michelle headed off stage, Alden thanks for a “great performance”, as the audience could be heard chanting “bring her back” in the background.

Alden had once before had to explain her decisions to the audience last season, after a quick snap during the live shows. Her response tonight, while not to the same shady extent, is a remnant of her X Factor legacy.

“Okay guys, decisions need to be taken, they’re not always gonna be easy.”

“But in the end, I have to go with my gut. Whether you like it or not.”

Whether you like it or not, that – what Chucky Bartolo would call an “Alexism” – once again proves that Alden knows how to handle negative reactions from an audience. She quickly shut them up and moved along to the next contestant, Celine Agius.
