Everything You Need To Know About Lovin Live With Pawla And Steve Mercieca
The seventh episode of Lovin Live went down a treat last night, and as you might’ve guessed from a lineup featuring Pawla ta’ Liquorish and Steve Mercieca, ‘interesting’ was an understatement.
In between the jokes, the real talk and the constant code-switching, 30 minutes flew by. Here’s a rundown of last night’s episode.
1. A special Renato-themed opening to the show
Pawla’s brutal honesty kicked off even before the cameras started rolling, and seeing as she commented on how Chucky’s outfit choice reminded her of Renato, we knew we just had to rework the intro song.
The shade might be strong with this one, but to be honest, Chucky should’ve seen it coming with that get-up.
2. “Ħa nibdew… għidha kif trid!”
With Pawla gradually becoming one of the most iconic Maltese-speaking celebrities in the last couple of years, there was a clarification to be made on an English-speaking show like Lovin Live.
“I’m going to speak in Maltese,” she told Chucky and the audience. “And it’s not because I don’t know how to speak in English, but because I feel more comfortable speaking in Maltese.”
While we were on the issue, Chucky took this opportunity to remind everyone that, with such an international audience, Lovin Malta is better off presenting content in English. As long as everyone’s happy though, we’re happy.
“When he laughs, everyone laughs with him,” Pawla chimed in. “We’ve got no problems there!”
Chucky did jokingly offer to throw in a translation or two where necessary though.
3. Pawla’s Australian adventures
The subject quickly turned to Pawla’s recent trip to Australia, one which her super fans from across the pond paid for in full!
Pawla explained how she couldn’t believe it was happening, thinking it was a prank right up to the very end. She even gave us an accurate reenactment of her face when she found out.
4. Steve Mercieca’s very eventful life story
If there’s someone who’s already lived a full life, it’s Steve Mercieca. The young Maltese-maniac-turned-Jesus-lookalike-property-mogul took the time to run through some of his craziest moments (like skydiving naked with his wife) and some of the more serious moments, like a recent accident which nearly killed him.
5. The inspirational speeches of the decade
While both Pawla and Steve were an absolute delight and are hilarious characters, they’ve both also been very inspirational online on multiple occasions. Well, trust Chucky to put that to the test.
Our two guests were given the task of given inspirational speeches, from Pawla urging people that the single life is the way to go (“Taf kemm hemm ħut fil-baħar?), to Steve giving people the courage to quit that job they hate (which he of course quickly made it about his companies Quicklets and Zanzi).
Oh, and let’s not forget that quick second shade of the episode when, halfway through encouraging people to be proud of their single status, Pawla reminded people to not dress up like Chucky.
A second round was waiting for our guests, and this is where their inspirational powers really kicked in.
Steve must’ve convinced thousands of men out there to grow their hair long after retelling the story of how he met his beautiful wife, and Pawla switched to English for the special occasion to tell everyone that it’s ok to speak in English in Malta. Hear that everyone?
6. Acing the Lovin Malta featured photo challenge
To test out whether Steve and Pawla are avid Lovin Malta readers, Chucky showed our guests featured photos from recent LM articles without any other context, to see whether they’d know what he was talking about.
And wouldn’t you know, they pretty much guessed them all!
7. A very interesting round of What’s In My Pocket?
Featuring a condom, a dirty sock, a tampon, and a small blow up doll of a man which Pawla grabbed by the penis and thought was a turtle.
Yep; we weren’t kidding.
If you’ve got 30 free minutes, here’s the episode in all its glory.
In the meantime, stay tuned for next week’s episode!
