Maisie Williams, the popular English actress best known for her compelling portrayal of Arya Stark on HBO’s Game Of Thrones, is coming back to Malta to star in Simshar director’s next film, to be set in the infamous strada stretta.
The Gut will be the next major film to come out of Malta, with Williams in the starring role and Maltese director Rebecca Cremona occupying the director’s chair.
In an interview with The Guardian, Williams teased that she would be featured in a film about “rival speakeasies in second world war-era Malta”. Rumour has it that The Gut, which is the brainchild of Rebecca Cremona, will feature lots of Strait Street action, shining a new light on the area in a way not seen before.
Although details on the upcoming film are scarce, it seems like Williams is not the only high profile artist who will be starring in the production
The cast will bring together a mix of local and international talent, though the names of the other artists to feature in the production are being kept under wraps.
The film is being co-produced by London and Dublin-based Ripple World Pictures, who have previously produced high-profile pictures such as Never Grow Old (starring John Cusack and Emile Hirsch) and WW2 drama Zoo (starring Penelope Wilton and Toby Jones).
Dublin-based EGG, who previously produced the TV series Sinbad which was filmed locally, will be the executive producers.
The film is being made with the support of the Malta Film Fund, with the film benefiting from both the Development and Production Support grants.
