Ira Losco Just Released A New Music Video That Confirms She Is Indeed Queen Of Pop

Malta’s queen of pop Ira Losco has just released the music video for the fifth single from her album No Sinner No Saint; ‘Hey Now’.

The video starts off quite ominously with a scene that shows Ira visiting a fortune teller, but we’ll get back to that later. The rest of the video is a lot more colourful; following a woman whose wedding did not go quite as planned, so she invests her energy into doing wifely things. You know; watering the plants, exercising, baking, ironing… all that.

But do not be fooled; this is no tale of standardised gender roles. There is a hint of irony to the way this is portrayed. Ira holds a certain amount of power over the role she is fulfilling, with a smirk on her face that indicates she is fooling us all.

Then she smashes a cake to pieces that we’d like to believe is a metaphor for the patriarchy, but maybe that’s just us.

The colourful video, shot in the south of Malta, is a perfect accompaniment to the reggaeton groove that the song has. Shots of Ira walking down the village streets, interspersed with shots of typical Maltese villagers, hint towards a sort of ‘breaking free’ (yaaas High School Musical reference) of the main character, as she moves on from the stress of a failed wedding, and finds herself in a new town, away from her troubles.

There also some shots of Ira dressed up as a mermaid which we don’t quite understand but are definitely here for.

And as the video comes to an end, we meet the fortune teller again. He talks of a woman who is strong and powerful, and empress who is ‘not of this earth’. Spooky. There’s no need to be confused though, these scenes are teasers for Ira’s next video ‘Bad Habits’, which will be released very soon. We’re shook.
