‘It Was An Honour’: Football Legend Gianluigi Buffon Praises Maltese Carnival Float Celebrating Italian Icons

Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon has shared his excitement and appreciation for a Maltese carnival float featuring his likeness, calling it a “magnificent” creation.
The Triton Carnival Company took home first prize for the second year in a row with their float ‘Una Notte Con Le Stelle’, a stunning tribute to Italian icons, including Buffon, Luciano Pavarotti, Bud Spencer, and Silvio Berlusconi.
Taking to Facebook, Buffon wrote, “It was a real honour to be part of this amazing carnival float. Over the last few weeks, I have had the pleasure of constantly receiving videos and photos documenting its making, and I want to express my most sincere congratulations for the magnificent work that has been done. Also, I heard the float won the parade, so my congratulations is double!”
The World Cup-winning goalkeeper, who played over 1,000 matches in his 28-year career, has now been immortalised in Maltese celebrations twice—last year, he was left speechless by a life-sized chocolate sculpture of himself.
