Joseph Muscat’s Choice Of Favourite Movie Quote Is Very Interesting (And A Little Ominous)
Freshers’ Week is in full swing at the University of Malta, and the dozens of stalls around campus are currently hosting thousands of guests. While most of those people are students, a famous guest or two always make an appearance… including the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat.
Doing his rounds around the campus, Joseph Muscat came across the CommA stall. “We have a board where we’re collecting everyone’s favourite movie quote,” a person from the stall told Lovin Malta. “He shook my hand, we asked him what is quote was, and without skipping a beat he said this. He didn’t even have to think about”.
The quote?
Oh, it’s “At my command, unleash Hell,” from Gladiator.
Sure, the actual quote is “At my signal”, but that’s definitely just nitpicking at this point.
“We thought it was pretty funny for the Prime Minister of the country to choose that quote out of so many others,” the person who saw it all go down said. “Totally not ominous”.
Of course, the 2000 film is not only a firm favourite of millions of people around the world, but also has strong ties to Malta. Scenes of Ancient Rome were shot over a period of 19 weeks in Fort Ricasoli, while a replica of about one third of the Colosseum was built. The replica took several months to build and cost an estimated $1 million, helping put our small islands on the map when it came to blockbuster names choosing Malta for filming.
Freshers’ Week is on till Friday, with various stalls promoting the different University departments and organisations. CommA are a student organisation that represent Digital Arts students and Communications students.
Other quotes which made it to the favourite quotes board include The Hulk’s “Puny God” and the all-too-familiar “Winter is Coming” from popular TV series Game of Thrones… but Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s quote is definitely a highlight.
