‘No Matter What You Do, Good Things Are Coming Your Way’: Simon Cowell Comforts Gaia With Superstar Comparison
Gaia Cauchi, the 15-year-old pop starlet who received four yeses from the judges at X Factor UK, has opened up about her positive personal experience with television producer and infamous judge Simon Cowell.
Speaking to Lovin Malta, Gaia said she remembered the moment the judge spoke to her after her performance, after Robbie Williams had told her he believed she would do well in a girl group.
“Simon turned to me and said: ‘I see you as a soloist, but no matter what you do, be it solo or in a girl group, good things are coming your way’,” she beamed.
But that was not where he stopped.
“Then he told me a story. He said, ‘In 2012, I went backstage to smoke a cigarette, and there was a girl crying on the floor, because she didn’t want to be in a girl group – and I can tell you that that girl was Camila Cabello’.”
Gaia could barely believe he was comparing her to the Havana superstar – and neither could the people around her
“When he told me that, all of a sudden everyone backstage started shouting and calling me Camila Cabello – probably because a lot of people didn’t know my actual name!” the 2013 Junior Eurovision winner laughed.
