One of Malta’s leading make-up artists has just hooked up with one of the world’s most famous and respected make-up artists – and the two got on like a house on fire.
Jennifer Dimech was asked to assist the talented Scott Barnes during his masterclass in Europe. If you don’t know Scott Barnes, he has famously been Jennifer Lopez’s personal make-up artist for the last 20 years, and is considered a living legend as soon as he gets some mascara and foundation in his paws.
Jennifer couldn’t believe she was being handpicked to assist Barnes during his London Masterclass
“I woke up like, somebody, pinch me please!” Jennifer told Lovin Malta following the big night. “I still can’t believe it, it’s a big achievement for me!”
The Masterclass was a rare look into Barnes’ techniques and personal make-up kit
“It was his first Masterclass in Europe,” Jennifer explained. “Barnes came all the way from Los Angeles to host this Masterclass, and I was his right-hand woman on stage. I was asked to organise his make-up kit on stage for the big day, and was there during his morning check to make sure everything was well. He used me as a model to check the lighting and we discussed if everything is well for him to work with – then we had the big class itself!” she said.
Barnes had come across Jennifer’s portfolio, and wanted her specifically to be on stage with him and be his personal assistant as he shared his tips and tricks
But it wasn’t all easy sailing: during the show, there was a brief moment of confusion when Barnes asked for a specific pencil, which Jennifer just couldn’t find, and she ended up handing him some brushes instead.
When they both realised what had happened, they acted cool and played it off, and laughed about it off-stage after the show when they found out the pencil in question hadn’t even been included in his kit.
Following the successful show, there were hints that Barnes may be interested in making their working relationship a bit more permanent
“If everything goes well, maybe I’ll be asked to assist him in places like Dubai and Europe – he has an assistant in Los Angeles who needs to remain there, and I might be needed in Europe possibly… we’ll see, fingers crossed that is the next thing to do now,” she beamed.
Jennifer describes Barnes as “a very humble and honest guy”
“At the end of it all, he thanked me in stage and everyone applauded for me,” she said. “People were coming up to me and adoring the fact that I was his assistant – it’s every make-up artist’s dream to be entrusted with a job this huge. He thanked me and he said i was amazing so for me that was absolutely insane, he is so so genuine and humble.”
