WATCH: BBC’s The Apprentice Comes To Malta For One Very Cheap Challenge
The first episode of the new series of the BBC’s hit show The Apprentice, where 16 contestants battle it out to prove they have the best business acumen, featured a “challenge of the cheap” in Malta.
The 16 hopefuls were sent to Malta from London for a day-long shopping spree, with the goal of getting their hands on nine specific items for the cheapest prices possible. They were given until 7pm before they were to regroup at Malta International Airport and show their wares.
However, it is not long before tempers start to fray
One group of female contestants head to Ta’ Qali Crafts Village to pick up a filigree boat with one very particular detail.
However, even though negotiations with the Maltese businessman are successful, not all of the group is happy with the way things panned out at Anthony’s Filigree shop.

The boys seem to keep it together a bit better as they go on a hunt for a large octopus
They head to Rita’s Fish Shop in Marsaxlokk and ask for an octopus with a “40 inch hose”, a request that confuses the Maltese shop owners.
The group eventually cut their losses and decide to go for the octopus offered to them, hoping it fits the bill.

The 16 contestants are set to be fired one by one, until one final apprentice is left
The winner of the season will be given the opportunity of working with Lord Sugar. Lord Sugar himself is excited for the new season, telling viewers to “expect the unexpected” and has praised the quality of this season’s possible apprentices.
The new series of The Apprentice begins at 9pm on Wednesday 3 October on BBC One.
