WATCH: Eileen Montesin And Freddie Portelli Go Totally Off-Script And Start Singing At The LMAs

The first edition of the Lovin Music Awards brought some incredible and unforgettable moments for the Maltese music industry. But seeing Maltese icon Freddie Portelli sing an impromptu rendition of his classics had to be one of the highlights for sure.
Television icon Eileen Montesin took the LMAs stage to present the Lifetime Achievement Award, the nominees of which were Gillian Attard, Howard Keith Debono, Ray Mercieca, Freddie Portelli, Joseph Calleja and Tenishia.
After rehashing her iconic “ara Doris!” and reading out a small written intro, Montesin announced the winner, Freddie Portelli, and the crowd went wild – but the best was truly yet to come.
Freddie bowed on one knee as he took the stage and everyone applauded.
One of Malta’s most beloved entertainers, Freddie’s charisma hit home with the crowd, who held on to his every word. He spoke about his career and his age and spoke about ‘Il-Kbir Għadu Ġej’, the theatrical production that’s inspired by his life.
But then Eileen took it up a notch, and challenged Freddie to sing a quick verse.
Before anyone knew it, he had jumped into the classic “Mur u Ħallini” – and honestly, he couldn’t have chosen a better verse as the entire LMAs crowd sang and danced along with him.
And if the crowd hadn’t had enough nostalgia for one night, Freddie’s award was followed up by a performance by Gozitan icons The Tramps, who performed their anthem ‘Xemx’ for a massive singalong.
