Watch: Ella Portelli Transforms Into A Butterfly For Miss Universe In Message On Malta’s ‘Overdevelopment’

Miss Universe Malta Ella Portelli has stunned the Miss Universe Competition in El Salvador again.. but this time wearing a butterfly costume with an important social message.
Portelli shared images of her costume to Instagram, “representing a butterfly, which in Maltese is called ’Farfett’.”
The colourful costume has a deeper meaning, taking aim at Malta’s construction issue. “This costume is a representation that unfortunately due to over construction being carried out on such a small island,” Miss Universe Malta wrote, “without consideration for local fauna and flora, are having a devastating effect of the state of Maltese biodiversity, according to experts.”

“In Malta there used to be approximately 50 different species of butterflies and around 550 species of moths,” Miss Universe wrote expressing their concern for Malta’s flora and fauna.
“This costume is a representation of creating more awareness about taking care of our nature.”
Besides this costume, Ella also modelled her swimsuit during the preliminary round at the competition.
Miss Universe concludes on Saturday 18th November as preliminary rounds are currently taking place in preparation for the final of the coveted title.
