WATCH: Maltese Actress To Star In New Comedy Series Featuring Rupert Grint And Lindsay Lohan

A new British black comedy series called SickNote debuted last night, and it features some big names in the industry. We’re talking Rupert ‘Ron Weasley’ Grint, cult legend comedian Nick Frost (‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘The World’s End’ and ‘Paul’ to name a few) and ‘Miami Vice’ main man Don Johnson. Not to mention Lindsay Lohan for the second, already-greenlit season. Oh, and a Maltese actress.

From appearing in The Devil’s Double and Maleficent to starring in an amazingly twisted American TV series this summer, Maltese-born Marama Corlett has been killing it abroad. Now, she’s set to feature in what might very-well be the biggest star-studded cast… and she’s even made it to the poster and trailer!

SickNote tells the story of Daniel (Grint), an insurance rep who is wrongly diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, a terminal illness. Daniel decides to play the part and keep the misdiagnosis from his family and friends when he realises that this leads to some “perks” like getting free stuff, getting back with his ex-girlfriend and finding stability in his job…or as Corlett’s character Linda puts it, “You could get away with murder.”

The black comedy comes from the UK production company King Bert, the brainchild of British comedy legends David Walliams and Miranda Hart.

In an interview published this week where he talked about being in the perpetual shadow of something as big as Harry Potter, Grint had also clarified some issues on the subject matter of this new TV series. “We are not in any way condoning lying about having a serious disease” he said. “We were very careful about that. We’re not having fun at the expense of anyone who is ill. Daniel’s lie is very bad, but in this series everybody is lying and being hypocritical.”

SickNote aired last night at 10pm on Sky One (and on streaming service Now TV), with six episodes slated for the first season.

A second season was ordered way back last April, and with a line-up like that, there’s quite a lot riding on the series. Kudos to Corlett for joining the ranks!
