Watch: ‘Sleep Has Been Very Difficult’ – Neil Agius Gives Recovery Update 36 Hours After Epic Swim

Neil Agius has offered an update on his road to recovery after the insane three consecutive days of swimming his body has just endured… and while he didn’t sleep for all that time, it’s not like he’s been sleeping all the time now, either.

“It’s been around 36 hours since I finished the swim, and you probably think I’ve been sleeping the whole time, ” Agius said in a video update shared moments ago. “Unfortunately, that’s not the case, that’s not how it works. Sleep has been very difficult.”

“My body will be giving off a lot of heat trying to recover as much as possible,” the former Olympian continued. “My mouth and my noise sustained the most damage, I would say, with the ulcers in my mouth, and I also have pieces of skin drying up and coming out of my nose, from the salty erosion in my noise.”

“But what I’m really happy about is that my body, my shoulders, my chest, my back, are feeling really strong and really good,” Neil continued. “I mean OK, there’s a bit of fatigue, but nothing too crazy, and it just shows the preparation and the planning really went well.”

On Monday night, just after 9.30pm, Neil arrived in Għar Lapsi after having swum over 140 kilometres and 61 hours.

He is now asking people to tell him what they’d like to know more about in the coming days, such as the hallucinations he experienced, and has promised another update tomorrow morning.
