Watch: ‘They Built The Colosseum!’ – Denzel Washington Says Gladiator II Is ‘The Biggest Film’ He’s Been On
He might’ve been in some huge movies and blockbusters across his four-decade career, but Denzel Washington has said the upcoming Malta-filmed Gladiator sequel is “the biggest movie”
“They built the Colosseum,” Washington – who’s been in massive productions like American Gangster, Malcolm X, Training Day, Flight, Magnificent Seven, Flight, The Tragedy On Macbeth, and Man On Fire – said in the short clip uploaded on social last night. “It’s a ride. The spectacle, everywhere you turn you feel like you’re in that world. And I love that.”

Earlier this month, ahead of the release of the first Gladiator 2 trailer, fellow Hollywood star Pedro Pascal had some similarly amazing words to say about the production process in Malta. “It was like taking Game of Thrones and multiplying the size in a big way,” Pascal had told Vanity Fair as part of an in-depth First Look article. “I’ve been on such big sets and I have never seen anything like this.”
The highly-anticipated film has dominated the spotlight and gossip spheres far beyond our shores, but back in Malta, it also found itself at the heart of a controversial revelation, when it was found that the Maltese government was prepared to spend €46.7 million of taxpayer money to essentially fund its development.
