Who Are Malta’s ‘Fab 5’ And Why Are They Making Over The Island’s Straight Boys?
If you haven’t seen the trailer for Queer Eye – Malta, the latest show announced on Lovin Malta TV, then stop what you’re doing and inject a heavy dose of fabulous into your life this second.
But who are the Maltese Fab 5, and what do they bring to the show?
Luke Azzopardi – Fashion
A designer like no other and the founder of his own brand of bespoke masterpieces (Luke Azzopardi Għawdex), Luke’s sharp tongue and even sharper eye meant no straight guy’s crocs, cargo shorts or sweat pants were safe.
“Being on the show is exciting for me because I get to work with straight men, which is different. Normally it’s just women so I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Thomas Camilleri – Food and Wine
Thomas is the definition of multitalented. From acting to marketing, he does it all, but his true love will always be good food and an even better wine pairing. From slicing avocados to picking the perfect whiskey that’s bound to impress, Thomas is coming for your kitchens.
“Maltese men need a lot of help, but honestly seeing the difference small changes can make in their life makes me want to keep doing this. It’s so exciting and rewarding.”
Chucky Bartolo – Culture
Chucky is not known to hold back and it’s exactly this unapologetic sense of self that he hopes to transmit to all the straight guys the Fab 5 will be working with.
“We’re often made to feel like we shouldn’t be confident in who we are or proud of our achievements. People think it’s cliche but feeling good on the inside really does show up physically. As gay men we’re “lucky” that society forces us to be strong individuals – I’m hoping to pass on what I learnt in this process to the guys we work with and those who may be watching form home.”
Jean Pierre Cassar – Grooming
This local TV actor is known for his polished looks and spot-on style. Jean Pierre knows all the little tips and tricks it takes to go from looking good to looking fabulous. He’s also got one hell of a busy timetable so he knows what products give the best results with minimal effort.
“When I was asked to do the show I didn’t even think about it? Me? Queer Eye Malta? Absolutely yes.”
Sean Mayl – Design
An architect by profession Sean’s eye for design detail meant a lot of migraines when looking through the straight guys’ apartments. But with a lot of help and some sheer determination to fix up the space, Sean’s designs breathed new life into what some would consider hopeless cases.
“If you give someone a space they’re happy to come home to, you instantly brighten up their days. And that’s exactly what I wanted to do for these guys.”
