Ashanti and Ja Rule shot to stardom in the early 2000s
Some very well-known names in the music industry, including rapper Ja Rule, singer Ashanti and R&B band Blackstreet, were in Malta over the weekend as VIP guests for an exclusive function organised by a Nigerian oil tycoon.
Olusegun Oladiran Adebutu, who owns the second largest oil refinery in sub-Saharan Africa and who recently set up a record label, arrived in Malta on Thursday and – as reported by Net News – booked out 380 rooms from the Intercontinental Hotel for his guests.

On Friday night, a concert was held in his honour at the hotel – with guests receiving VIP treatment. Yesterday, Adebutu and his guests spent the day on a luxury yacht where they soaked up the Mediterranean sun.
Ja Rule and Ashanti shot to stardom in the early 2000s, collaborating with each other on numerous occasions – including for ‘Always On Time’ and ‘Wonderful’, the latter song also featuring R Kelly. Blackstreet first formed in the early 1990s and is perhaps most renowned for its song ‘No Diggity’, in collaboration with Dr Dre, and ‘Girlfriend/Boyfriend’, in collaboration with Ja Rule and Janet Jackson.
Other prominent guests at the Malta party included singers Tevin Campbell and Joseph Lewis Thomas, and Victoria’s Secret Angel model Sara Sampaio.
