WOWSA! Neil Agius Nominated For Two Prestigious Global Awards Including Man Of The Year Following Record-Breaking Swim
Malta’s swimming superhero Neil Agius has received some world class recognition by none other than WOWSA, the World Open Water Swimming Association.
This morning, Agius – who broke the world record for the longest unassisted, current-neutral ocean swim last September – took to social media to announce he’s been nominated for TWO WOWSA Awards… for Performance of the Year and Man of the Year, no less!
The global authority when it comes to insane swims all around the world, WOWSA is definitely or organisation you want to be celebrating you. And having two prestigious nominations like this really validates the difficulty, legitimacy and significance of any swim… let alone the incredible 142.3-kilometre one Agius finished in 60 hours, 35 minutes and 4 seconds.

“I was training for my longest swim to date this time last year,” Agius wrote moments ago. “The Small Island, Big Swim, wasn’t public yet, but the fire within me to dig deep and push boundaries was strong. Fast forward to this morning, and finding out I’m nominated for two WOWSA awards feels like a dream.”
“These nominations are not just about a single swim—they celebrate human resilience, determination, and the relentless pursuit of the impossible,” Agius continued. “It showcases Malta’s place on the world stage of endurance swimming and proves that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible.
