The much-anticipated BOV Volleyball Marathon is back, bringing with it 53 hours of non-stop volleyball and a powerful message of solidarity.

This year marks the 15th edition of the beloved fundraising event, which will take place from 18th July at 6:30pm to midnight on 20th July, in the car park of id-Dar tal-Providenza in Siġġiewi.

The marathon will be officially launched by President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono, and will feature forty dedicated players, selected after six weeks of intensive training. The athletes will be split into five teams and will take on the physically and mentally demanding challenge of playing volleyball continuously for over two days not for glory, but for a cause close to the nation’s heart.

This year’s edition holds special significance, as it also celebrates the 60th anniversary of id-Dar tal-Providenza, which continues to provide essential residential services to 115 people with disabilities. During the presentation of the players, Martin Micallef, Director of the Home, stressed the urgent need for funding, not only to sustain the services currently offered but also to support the Home’s plans to open more community-based residences. He urged the public to attend the event and show their support for the players who are volunteering their time and energy in the spirit of generosity and care.

Chief Operations Officer at Bank of Valletta, Ernest Agius, emphasized the event’s greater purpose, stating that the marathon is more than just a game, it is a testament to the power of unity. He highlighted how sport, when combined with solidarity, has the ability to strengthen the fabric of society and foster a more compassionate Malta.

In addition to the sporting challenge, attendees can enjoy a variety of live entertainment each evening of the marathon. On Friday night, the band Zone 5 will take the stage. Saturday night will feature a performance by the folk group Kantera, and on Sunday evening, the Spiteri Lucas Band will close the weekend with a lively show. All performances will take place between 9:00pm and midnight on a specially constructed stage in the Siġġiewi car park.

The public is encouraged to contribute to this noble cause through several convenient donation methods. Donations can be made by phone, with amounts ranging from €15 to €100. Those wishing to donate €15 may call 5170 2012, while calls to 5180 2013, 5190 2070, and 5130 2044 correspond to €25, €50, and €100 donations respectively. Supporters can also make pledges by calling 2146 3686, use BOV Mobile Pay via 7932 4834, or contribute online through PayPal or the Home’s bank accounts by visiting www.sabihlitaghti.org.

Whether you’re showing up to cheer on the players, enjoying the live music, or donating from afar, every bit of support counts. The BOV Volleyball Marathon is more than an annual event, it’s a celebration of compassion, community, and the power of coming together to make a difference.
