DAR Bjorn Shares Mark’s Emotional Story Ahead Of Fundraiser

DAR Bjorn shares one of its residents’ story ahead of their Miegħek Jien Telethon fundraiser to help build the third neurological home in Malta on 31st August.
At just 22 years old, Mark began to lose control of his hands and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and was suddenly confined to his bedroom, unable to move. Shortly after, Mark also lost his father, with whom he was very close.
After losing both parents, both Mark and his sister found comfort at DAR Bjorn. In fact, Mark’s sister works at the cafeteria and said that “this place gave me back my life. When I cried, there was always a shoulder to lean on.”
Executive Secretary of DAR Bjorn, Maria Formosa, organised a surprise visit to the garage where Mark spent many hours with his father learning the skill of car spraying. The moment Mark saw his original spray gun, he was overwhelmed with emotion saying “I miss the trade” with tears in his eyes.
Maria even took Mark to the old pastizzeria just up the road, the same place where he used to grab two pastizzi during his breaks. “It was a perfect day,” said Mark. A day filled with memories, smells, tastes and feelings that had been locked away for years.
With the support of DAR Bjorn, Mark and many others like him are no longer alone. They have people around to help them live with dignity.
On 31st August, DAR Bjorn invites the public to donate in the “Miegħek Jien” Telethon which will be broadcast on all main TV stations in Malta. All donations will go towards the building of the third neurological home in Malta to help more people like Mark.
