Kayakers Honour Second World War Heroes On Daring Sicily-Malta Voyage In Aid Of Inspire

Two kayakers, Dorian Vassallo and Albert Gambina, have just completed an adventurous crossing from Sicily to Malta as a tribute to forgotten wartime heroes.

Vassallo and Gambina arrived at Golden Sands on Wednesday early morning. This challenge was organised in aid of Inspire Malta to honour the Combined Operations Pilotage Parties (COPP) commandos.

In 1943’s Operation Husky, Malta played a central role in the Allied invasion of Sicily.

The mission’s success was facilitated by the deployment of COPP commandos from submarines to collect vital intelligence on enemy beaches.

Dorian and Albert honoured these unsung soldiers and raised money and awareness for a deserving cause by kayaking along their historic route.

After their journey, supporters and bystanders gathered at the shore to greet them.

Well done to all involved!
