President Hosts Alive Charity Cyclists After 1,100km Ride for Cancer Research

Her Excellency, President Myriam Spiteri Debono hosted the Alive Charity Foundation cyclists, and the volunteers who support them, at San Anton Palace, following their successful ALIVE2025 Cycling Challenge for Cancer.
Thirty cyclists travelled 1,100 kilometres over six days this year, starting in Berlin, Germany, and travelling through the Czech Republic before arriving in Salzburg, Austria.
Due to their perseverance and enthusiasm for the noble cause of promoting and funding cancer research by the University of Malta’s Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT), the cyclists overcame a number of obstacles during their journey, including bad weather with highs of over 30°C and lows of 8°C.
In a courtesy meeting with the cyclists and the support staff, President Myriam Spiteri Debono thanked them for their dedication and selflessness in pushing themselves for a worthy cause. The President promised the Office of the Presidency’s support for the Alive Cycling Challenge and asked for more national attention for the Alive Challenge Foundation’s objective.
Nicky Camilleri, chairman of the Alive Charity Foundation, acknowledged that the Foundation is gaining from greater visibility but said more work needs to be done to secure further funding for cancer prevention and cure research.

An official from Transport Malta, which assisted the team throughout months of training around Malta and Gozo, as well as a group of volunteers who help the cyclists during their training in Malta and Sicily and during the challenge itself, attended the courtesy call.
Alive Charity Foundation was founded in 2013 by a group of cycling enthusiasts who wanted to contribute to cancer prevention and research through their passion for cycling. Since then, the Alive Charity Foundation has hosted eleven cycle challenges, raising €920,000 for the Children’s Play area at the Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre (SAMOC) and the University of Malta’s Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT).
The foundation is aiming to surpass €1 million in donations following this year’s successful experience.
