Spring in Malta is kicking off with an artsy film extravaganza this weekend thanks to the Valletta Film Festival Weekend.
From the 22nd to the 24th of March, Spazju Kreattiv’s cinema will see the screening of six interesting documentary films to enjoy, and here’s what you can feast your eyes on this weekend.
1. Mali Blues
This film tells the story of Mali’s musical cultural identity. Mali is said to be where blues and jazz originated, brought later by abducted slaves to America’s cotton fields.
The film will be shown in French and Bambara.
2. In Praise of Nothing
A satirical documentary parable about Nothing. Nothing runs away from home after being sick of being so misunderstood.
3. The Magic Life of V
Directed by Tonislav Hristov, the guy who won Best Documentary at Valletta Film Festival 2017 for the film The Good Postman, we have high hopes for this one.
The Magic Life of V is a fantasy which features wizards, magic spells and heroic sword battles.
4. Avec L’Amour
This Macedonian film revolves around a retiring biology teacher with a huge passion for the 100 rusty old cars he owns.
Every night, he sleeps by their side, resulting in his wife having to sleep alone. She makes ends meet by baking cakes.
5. The Raft
The Raft is about “one of the strangest group experiments of all time”.
Five men and six women travelled across the Atlantic on a raft as part of a scientific experiment studying violence and sexual attraction.
6. Shooting the Mafia
A documentary about a Sicilian photojournalist who had conflict with the Mafia when she first dared to point her camera at one of their victims.
