After Achieving An Impressive Milestone, Maltese Voluntary Cleanup Group Eyes New Targets

More and more people are realising just how serious the issue of littering and waste is becoming in Malta. Various cleanups have been organised around the island in the last couple of months, each helping remove hundreds of plastic cups, syringes and tons of waste from Malta’s countryside.

Żibel, an environmental NGO that has been organising cleanups around Malta for over a year now, has been doing some great work. They recently announced that they’ve removed over 47 tons of waste in total.

To be clear, 47 tons is equal to the weight of five and a half adult elephants.

The group has recently launched several initiatives, including the Żibel Dive Tribe, a group of licensed divers cleaning up the Maltese seas.

The volunteer environmental group has now made a public call for donations to help the group continue protecting Malta’s natural environment. Among the things the money will be going towards is a large-scale educational campaign as well as a structure to support the ongoing costs of the organisation.

Promising to put the money to good use, they’ve set up a Paypal for anyone interested in donating. If you can’t make it to their next cleanup, this is a great way to help keep Malta clean.
