Animal Carcass Left To Rot In A Rubbish Bag Amongst Illegally Dumped Litter In Għar Lapsi
A dog carcass was left to rot while wrapped in a plastic bag and chucked away amongst other litter in Panorama Road, limits of Għar Lapsi.
The grisly find was first posted on the environmentalist group 7R Lifestyle Malta, which organises clean ups in public spaces.
“How can this be normal if it’s illegal? A dead animal found alongside a black bag in an area we cleaned up three weeks ago,” the group said in an emotional statement.
“And the environmental authorities don’t do anything.”
The group also tagged the Malta Tourism Authority.
It is shocking to see such a nasty case of public littering, with many online simply asking: Where are the responsible authorities? What is being done to condone such acts from being committed?
Animal rights activists have stated these cases, although becoming slightly less common in their severity and occurrence, still happen, even to such an extent that a deceased animal gets thrown away with mixed rubbish.
This all comes down to two factors: one being the lack of information and education given from a young age, and the other simply because, unfortunately, Malta hasn’t developed a solid structured enforcement team that deals with animal mistreatment and cruelty.
In the wake of a lack of action, NGOs have taken it upon themselves to try and enforce with minute resources available on cases where animals are mistreated or – worse – harmed and abused.
And one wonders: if someone treated his fellow animal companion in this manner after its death, imagine just how mistreated this animal was when alive.
